Greene County GOP boss trashes 1st Amendment

Yesterday, according to John Mitchel, Marilyn Reid violated his First Amendment right to free speech by confiscating copies of a news article describing a pending lawsuit against Reid, Greene County Commissioner and Executive Chair for the Greene County Republican Party. Before the monthly Greene County Republican luncheon meeting at a public restaurant, Reid gathered up the handouts that were placed on the tables, saying, “This is a Republican meeting, not a lawsuit meeting.” Former Air Force Lieutenant Colonel John Mitchel is an elected member of the Greene County Republican Central Committee and challenged Steve Austria in the March 2009 U.S. District 7 Republican primary.

In response to the incident, Mitchel commented, “Ms. Reid has taken it over the top. For years she has exploited her leadership position with the Greene County Republican Party for personal and family gain, but this flagrant violation of a constituent’s right to free political speech seals the deal on her self-interested motives. Elected members of the Greene County Central Committee who are invited to the meeting, have just as much a right to express their opinions as Ms. Reid. Apparently Marilyn has no use for dissenting viewpoints coexisting with her agenda. This is an embarrassment to the Republican Party and an insult to Greene County citizens, particularly those who have served in the military. It’s time for Ms. Reid to step down as Greene County GOP Chair in favor of someone who is willing to listen to those who may have opinions different from their own.”

April 15 Tax Return Deadline : Coming Sooner Than You Think

The Ohio Department of Taxation also has a website with all of the forms and instructions you will need. The web address is tax.ohio.gov.

Last, but not least, is the user-friendly IRS website. Although I think every tax payer owes it to themselves to read the research of Bill Benson on the 16th Amendment entitled “The Law That Never Was“, all of the IRS tax forms and instructions, and on-line tax tools are at www.irs.gov/formspubs.

It is sincerely hoped that you receive an impressively stimulating refund for all of your hard work this year.

A refund reducing your part in the current $24,000 average tax debt you owe Uncle “Guido” Sam. It is reported that the mostly liberal and colored version of Uncle “Guido” plans to increase your share of national debt to $32,000. Don’t you just love their spending of money they nor you have?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist the urge to give a political jab.

Ohio Introduces HCR 11 Claiming State Sovereignty

HCR 11, Claiming State Sovereignty, was introduced in the House of Representatives on March 18 by its two primary sponsors Rep. Jarrod Martin and Rep. Kris Jordan. Along with 18 co-sponsors,they are trying to assert Ohio’s Constitutional Right under the Tenth Amendment.

Ohio, along with 30 other States, are sending a strong message not only to the Obama administration but Congress in general letting them know enough is enough! The Federal government has long overstepped it’s authority as was intended by our Constitution. This was precisely the reason for the Tenth Amendment. The Tenth Amendment provides that “powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

If your tired of the FED and Washington’s “blank check” mentality that is enslaving you and your childrens’ future through the printing of “un-backed fiat money and inflation,” I encourage you to make your voice heard. Call, fax or email your State Representative and make sure they support this important piece of legislation.

If you would like more information, you can go online at sovereign.ohiofreedom.com or attend a meeting at the Xenia Library on Wednesday, March 25th at 7PM in downstairs meeting room. You may sign the petition at that time as well.

The Case of the Disappearing and Reappearing Dry Cleaning Service in Xenia

Most of us take dry cleaning services for granted because when we need clothes dry cleaned, we just take them to our favorite most accessible and convenient dry cleaning establishment and obtain the service. But for over a year, the City of Xenia has endured a time without any local dry cleaning services after the last two dry cleaning outfits closed shop. The first dry cleaner to leave Xenia years ago was Snow White Dry Cleaner on Cincinnati Avenue. Then, in 2007, Capitol Dry Cleaning on West Second Street closed, followed by Clark’s Dry Cleaning on East Second Street in 2008. There was a long “dry spell “period when Xenia was completely without dry cleaning services — and residents noticed!

Seeing a market need for this important service, one drop off dry cleaning entity opened in January 2009 at 75 West Main Street in the former space occupied by Country Joe’s Coffee and Gift Baskets. In February 2009, the Xenia Shoe and Leather Store at 21 East Main Street expanded their operations to include a drop-off dry cleaning service. Also this month, a zoning permit was issued for Capitol Dry Cleaner to re-open at 631 West Second Street next to the Blockbuster Video Store.

Xenia has again several dry cleaning service outfits to choose from. So, now once again, Xenia residents will not have to travel far to have their clothing cleaned and pressed.

Other new business openings reported in Xenia Development Corner are:

• Instant Tax Service – 29 South Detroit St.
• Mangos Mexican Restaurant – 131 North Allison Ave in Xenia Plaza
• Homemade Uniques (arts and crafts store) – 54 South Detroit Street
• B5 Systems Inc. – wholesale operation at 141 Little Vine St.
• Joni and Friends – 1185 Wesley Avenue, Legacy Ministry Campus

Ohio budget to change education law

We’ve seen this before. Sixteen years ago Ohioans fought and won a battle against outcome-based education, which would have required the testing of students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes for promotion or graduation. These changes in state law were being pushed through in the state budget legislation. After huge public protests, the Legislature pulled the language and restricted state testing to academics.

Now the Education Bureaucracy is bringing OBE back.

Parents expect schools to teach rigorous academic skills. Yet Governor Strickland’s plan will require state standards and assessments (K-12 and graduation) to include interpersonal skills, social skills, collaboration skills, flexibility, creativity, work ethic, cross-cultural skills, leadership, and more. There is no way to score these highly subjective personality traits without discrimination or bias. Why would overburdened schools even want to try?

We already have a state assessment system that has lost its rigor. Now the state wants to add more requirements to the testing load for teachers to ensure children are creative, flexible, have good social skills, demonstrate leadership and much more. This means even less time for academic instruction. No wonder the governor is also calling for the addition of one entire month to the school year.

These new psychological standards and a longer school year will cripple local and state education budgets and force new and higher taxes. Teachers will need to learn to teach to psych evaluative tests and school systems will be at risk for lawsuits when graduates are denied diplomas due to their personality scores. These lawsuits could cost Ohio taxpayers millions more.

The only way to stop this plan is to show up at the public hearings and tell the finance committee members to reject this untested plan and stop experimenting with Ohio’s children. There will be three days of public hearings this coming week. We need to pack the room with parents/teachers/educators/taxpayers who are willing to tell legislators that these changes need to be rejected!

Tuesday, March 17, 1 pm
Public Hearing
Ohio Statehouse, Room 313
Columbus, Ohio 43215

Wednesday, March 18, 7 pm

In addition, call your own state legislator. Firmly ask for a NO vote on the budget (HB1) if the Governor’s reforms are not removed from the state budget bill.

Ohio Education Plan HB 1 : To Assess Attitudes and Behaviors

Governor Strickland has proposed very expensive and controversial education reforms in the state budget, which is currently under consideration in the Ohio House (HB 1). His school funding reforms are fairly complex and repeal the concept of the state basic aid being based on a per child amount and will virtually hinder school choice to the point of extinction. He is also intending to lengthen each school year by one month.

By far, the most controversial portion of his changes to state policy (not receiving much media attention) is an expansion of state mandated testing to include the attitudes and behaviors of students (K-12), including scoring criteria of interpersonal skills as a part of earning a diploma. These changes will directly affect every student in public and chartered private schools. But every taxpaying citizen in Ohio should be very concerned. A less rigorous academic focus (which we have been experiencing for quite some time) will continue to contribute to the decline in our economy. How will it help the economy if students are enthusiastic, flexible, collaborators with substandard academic skills?

We fought this exact same battle sixteen years ago (also in the state budget) against outcome-based education. It is back and we need in the short term heavy public engagement. The House Finance Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education is having general public hearings Monday through Wednesday this week. (see schedule below) Every concerned citizen should also be calling their state legislators with the message to vote no on House Bill 1 – the state budget if the Governor’s education reforms are not removed.

The Subcommittee hearing schedule is as follows:

Monday, March 16, 4 pm
Public hearing
Stivers School for the Arts
1313 East 5th Street
DAYTON, Ohio 45402

Tuesday, March 17, 1pm
Public Hearing
Ohio Statehouse, Room 313
COLUMBUS, Ohio 43215

Wednesday, March 18, 7pm
Public Hearing
Ohio Statehouse, Room 313
COLUMBUS, Ohio 43215

Public testimony can and should be brief. It is very simple to stand before the subcommittee members and tell them you oppose these types of state assessments.

Phone calls are also necessary. Please contact your state legislators and express your concerns with the state mandating these assessments. For a directory of Ohio legislators, go to www.legislature.state.oh.us.

Kettering Health Network saves “Cinderella”

Greene Memorial Hospital’s Greg Henderson’s boss asked what Xenia needed and how they could help. Frank Perez, the silver haired leader of the Kettering Health Network, wanted to show the healthcare giant’s commitment to the community as the new owner of the venerable local hospital. In a perfect storm of need meets willingness to help, the Xenia Area Community Theater’s Orion Monroe and the theater board submitted a plea for construction funds to convert their former Harley dealership building on Second St. in downtown Xenia into a viable community arts center.

Now several months, many thousands of dollars and hundreds of volunteer hours later the dream of a few resourceful citizen volunteers is becoming a reality. The debut performance in the new theater space will take place this weekend and next. For their first performances in the new space, X*ACT is producing a fairy tale for adults, Cinderella Waltz on March 13, 14, 20, and 21. A comic modern update of the original story, this charmingly whacky play by Don Nigro runs the gamut from pantsless fathers to blowzy fairy godmothers with wishing wells and dancin’ shoes thrown in for good measure.

Although the December donation has already paid for much of the construction, a formal giant check was presented Monday to Mayor Phyllis Penewitt, newly elected President of the Board. A formal Gala will be held this summer to celebrate the new addition to the arts community in Xenia.

Seating is limited and all performances are likely to be sold out early. Reservations are still available by calling (937) 372-0516, stopping by the X*ACT’s Second Act Thrift Store, 45 E. Second St. in downtown Xenia, or by visiting them on the web at www.XeniaAct.org. Admission for all performances is $12 and just $10 for seniors and students.

Democrats attacks school choice – thousands of children are at risk

Free choice is for the privileged and liberals

For years Congressional Democrats told us they were “for the children”. Their policies were “for the children”. Their tax increases were “for the children”. Recently they were given a chance in Congress to prove their pro-child philosophy. The price tag was a mere 15 million dollars, a fraction of the one-trillion dollar stimulus they just passed. But House Democrats decided they could not find $15 million to save the D.C. Voucher Program. Instead they cut the funding and are throwing 1,900 children out of the school of their choice. Kids, whose parents on average make $23,000 per year. Kids who did nothing wrong other than have the courage to make a change for the sake of their future.

At the same time in the state of Ohio, Governor Ted Strickland and the Democrat-led House are on a crusade to wipe charter schools off the map. They want to force thousands of Ohio students back into failing schools in troubled school districts.

This is the purge mentality of the Democrat Party. They despise school choice. They owe the education establishment and the unions. The payback comes in destroying the lives of kids who have done nothing wrong.

At the same time, the leader of the Democrats, President Barack Obama, has placed his daughters in the school of his choice: Sidwell Friends, the most exclusive and expensive school in D.C.

There is something you can do about this injustice. First take a look at the video from the kids in D.C. Then join their plea and call the White House switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Politely ask the President to restore the D.C. Voucher Program.

Next, for those residents of Ohio, contact Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. Let him know you support charter schools in Ohio. Tell him you want more choice in education, not less. They may give you a bunch of rhetoric about “for profit” management companies that run charter schools. That’s a smokescreen. They want all choice eliminated. They are picking on the management companies today. The rest will follow.

Yellow Springs Artist Roger Smith at Express Yourself Gallery

Here is an aging hippie who has done his share of time in the Glen and the Pine Forest. It is evident that he has spent untold hours taking in the changing character of the seasons and the land when you look into the depths of Yellow Springs native Roger Smith’s semi-Expressionist paintings of his hometown’s famous woodlands.

The paintings in this exhibit are primarily oils that lean towards forest landscapes and outdoor scenes. Smith calls them, “etheric landscapes of a spiritual nature.” Also included in the show are a few abstract and Eastern religious works which add an unexpected dimension to the collection. Unique to this artist is the range of sizes he works with. “The paintings range in size from minitures of 5×7 inches to as large as 36×40 inches,” he says. As a working artist who frequents nearly all of the art fairs in the region, Smith has specialized in affordable miniatures which are more accessible to the average casual art buyer. The prices range from $35.00 for the miniature canvases to several hundred dollars for the larger works.

Smith’ paintings are on display through the end of March at Express Yourself Coffeehouse and Art Gallery, 78 E. Main St. in downtown Xenia. Exhibit hours are 7 AM to 2 PM, Monday through Saturday and 6 to 9 PM on Friday and Saturday evenings. Stop in and enjoy a latte and an inexpensive lunch while you enjoy the art. For more information call (937) 372-7446, email xeniacoffee@sbcglobal.net or visit www.ExpressYourselfCoffeehouse.com.

Sabbath Discussion : National debt and divine justice

By Daniel Downs

The national debt was $10.6 trillion. According to Rep. Steve Austria, the national debt will increase another $1.1 trillion as a result of recent stimulus-bailout legislation. If we add the previous $800 billion bank bailout legislation, a more accurate figure is $2 trillion raising the national debt to $12.5 trillion. The Government Accounting Office (GAO) reports that foreign ownership of the national debt was around 30 percent. But at the beginning of the year, it increased to over 50 percent. If that were not bad enough, the Congressional Budget Office reports that Congress will spend $1.2 trillion more than it will receive this year. Again, if we add the recent stimulus bill, the numbers climb to over $1.7 trillion more than last year and all of it on credit. The U.S. government not only owes around $6 trillion to foreigners, the two largest creditors being Japan and communist China, but Congress intends to spend $2.1 trillion more than it can repay. When we compare the national debt to the total national economic productivity or Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which is estimated at a little over $14 trillion, it becomes apparent that politicians assume they have right to spend nearly all of the people’s wealth on credit.

Sadly, America is a debtor nation. As we will see, this type of compulsive spending for the cause of secular, socialist, and global agendas is a curse of divine justice. The following then is what the penmen of God had to say about this matter.

One of the more pertinent illuminations of ancient wisdom comes from the writer of Proverbs, who many scholars believe King Solomon was its author. King Solomon wrote:

Do not be among those who become guarantors of debt. (Pro. 22:26)

The federal government is a guarantor of student loans, bank loans, business loans, mortgage loans, loans to foreign governments, and other types of loans. For decades, the federal government has been bailing out bank and Wall Street because of bad lending practices to corporations and foreign governments. It is part of the purpose of the Federal Reserve, federal deposit insurance, and federal loan guarantee programs. Taxpayers have been footing the bill without even realizing it. Maybe now it will be understood that working taxpaying Americans are ultimate bailing out all these rotten practices for the benefit of those in power. As Austria has pointed out, the average Joe or Juanita benefits little. It should be apparent that profit over people is not working well for most Americans.

It is important to note that the Hebrew word used for debt in the above verse refers to interest bearing loans. In the modern vernacular, the proverb could be rewritten thus: “Do not be among those who guarantee interest bearing bank or payday loans for anyone.”

The law of Israel prohibited loans with interest. At the same time, the law also required society to give loans to the needy or poor. According to the laws governing credit and debt, all outstanding loans to fellow citizens had to be canceled every seven years. Only loans to foreign nations or foreign individuals were exempt from God’s law of debt forgiveness. (Ex. 22:25; Deut. 16:1-11)

If the covenant people were faithful to covenantal law, God promised a specific kind of blessing: they would become creditor to the world but not a debtor. However, if they did not follow God’s law, the Jewish nation was promised judgment. One aspect of the promised judgment was that they would become debtors and foreigners would consume their productivity. (Deut. 28:44, 33, 38)

Right now, foreigners either through financial debt or through an on-going international trade imbalance consume over 50 percent of economic productivity of Americans. By importing more foreign goods and services than exported, more of working America’s wealth goes to foreigners. What America exports more than it imports is military related goods and services. Yet, that too is more allusion than reality. For example, Congress gives Israel $2 billion in aid for the purpose of Israel using most, if not all, of it to purchase military equipment like airplanes from American companies like Lockheed. That $2 billion is part of the public debt borrowed to fulfill the aforementioned allusion. It is taxpayers funding the purchase of weaponry for the sole benefit of only a few Americans.

Another voice of ancient wisdom and enlightenment was the priestly prophet Isaiah. During an earlier stage of his preaching for God, what appears to have been a message addressed to the whole world is recorded in chapter 24 of the book by his name. The following are a few excerpts relevant to our discussion:

“Behold, the Lord lays the earth waste, devastates it, distorts its surface and scatters its inhabitants. And the people will be like the priest, the servant like his master, the maid like her mistress, the buyer like the seller, the lender like the borrower, the creditor like the debtor. The earth will be completely laid waste and completely despoiled, for the Lord has spoken this word…. The earth is also polluted by its inhabitants, for they transgress laws, violated statutes, broke the everlasting covenant. Therefore, a curse devours the earth and those who live in it are held guilty…. So it will happen in that day, that the Lord will punish the host of heaven on high, and the kings of the earth on earth.” (Isa. 24:1-3, 5-6a, 21)

Isaiah probably had in mind the law of credit and debt when he wrote that God was going to waste the earth and cause it to be despoiled. (24:3) This divine punishment will be the result all inhabitants polluting the earth. The earth becomes corrupted because of the perpetual violations of the eternal covenant and its laws. (v. 4) Because all people are as guilty as the next guy, all would experience what God means by making the earth completely laid waste. (v5) The peculiar result is stated by the prophet this way: “The buyer will be like the seller, the lender will be like the borrower, and the creditor will be like the debtor.” (v 2)

Many scholars, Jewish and Christian, claim the eternal covenant refers only to the 663 laws written in the books of Moses or Torah. This is not the case. The eternal covenant began with Adam and his sons. It was perpetuated through Noah, later though Abraham, expanded to a national model of society through Moses and Israel, expanded again with the priesthood and the royal bloodline of David, and more fully completed through Jesus of Nazareth and his disciples. The moral law of the eternal covenant is still in effect today just as it was when most of the laws of the American colonies and later the states and the nation conformed to it.

What makes the prophecy of Isaiah so interesting is the fact that it has been happening in our lifetime. For example, most workers today produce goods and services that they or others within their companies sell. All workers in turn buy things they want or need from other sellers. Seller and buyer are virtually the same.

Okay, it could be rightly argued that it has always been the case since ancient times. Not so with banking, which didn’t exist universally? In banking, depositors lend their money to banks often believing that they will earn more money through interest. This belief is erroneous because banks only pay interest rates near the inflation rate. Bank CDs pay little over the inflation rate as well. Therefore, banks only allow depositors to keep the same value of their original loans also called deposits. Banks take the depositors loans and lend to borrowers at higher interest rates in order to make a profit. Depositors are very kind people because they lend money to needy bankers so that they can earn a living without having to do much strenuous labor.

We can apply the same to the national debt. Taxpayers hold the gigantic public debt in the federal government who lends to as well as borrows from the American people and from foreigners. Government borrows by exchanging paper bonds of specified value for money of equal value with a promise to repay at set interest rate, which rate is usually a little more and sometimes less than the inflation rate. As with depositing wealth in federal banks, lending wealth to the government is not very profitable, especially for individuals. It is an allusion because the feds inflationary program consumes any real profit. The actual beneficiaries are institutions of government and corporations. (By the way, Federal Reserve Banks, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac are unconstitutional and illegal corporations, and so are any other institutions incorporated by the federal government. The records of the Constitutional conventions prove it. Their existences are monuments to criminal acts against the Supreme Law of the Land.)

Another golden nugget of ancient enlightenment reveals the likely outcome of unethical and lawless financial acts against God’s eternal covenant. As it was written by the author of Proverbs:

“The borrower becomes the lender’s slave.” (22:7)

To whom then is the America enslaved? Is the imperial government enslaved to both the global agenda of its politicians as well as to foreigners? Are we the people really free? Are we not more like indentured servants to a corrupt government, corporate powers, and foreigners? Consider that foreigners now own a significant percentage of all industries and physical capital. Moreover, federal and state governments have seriously considered leasing our highways to foreigners to fund their transportation departments.

Isaiah 24 also sheds light on Revelation 13. When the beast or anti-Christ arises, he will gain control over the global economy. When this global dictator does, all–both buyer and seller–will become truly equal. They both will be subservient to him. None will they be able to buy or sell without giving allegiance to this dictator and his politics of change. Here is secular egalitarianism at its worst.

This is the end result of a globalized economy regulated by a unified world government fostered by world socialists on Capitol Hill, in state government, corporations, and universities of America. It is part of the divine judgment and the eventual end to their grand schemes whether called secularism or socialism or globalism or democracy.

As depicted by Isaiah 24, the eternal covenant will still stand after they have perished from the earth.
